Date: 11th October 2000 Reference: PR/82/00 Pilkington looks to the future with Ford Pilkington Automotive, one of the world's leading automotive glazing manufacturers, has been awarded the contract to supply backlights for the fixed back window on Ford F150 trucks. The F150 is the best selling pickup truck in the United States but more impressively has been the best selling vehicle - either car or truck - worldwide for the last eighteen years. Pilkington Automotive is supplying the glazing for vehicles built at three different Ford assembly plants which are located in Oakville, Ontario; Norfolk, Virginia and Kansas City, Missouri. Brad Watterworth, senior business manager for Ford at Pilkington Automotive in the US, comments: "It's great to win the glass business for the F150. We already had the contract to bond the PET ring to the backlight but now we've won the contract to manufacture the glass as well. Our unique ability to offer added value services as well as producing glazing helped us win this contract. This year we will also begin supplying windscreens for the Mustang and Taurus passenger cars." Norm Markert, president, OE, Pilkington Automotive in the US, adds: "We are delighted with the F150 contract which represents significant growth of our business with Ford, further strengthening our relationship with the company that is now one of our largest global customers. Technological advances in our glass production places Pilkington at the forefront of the industry and with exciting developments ahead for automotive glazing, we look forward to working in global partnership with Ford."
